AWARDS AND BANQUET
Awards will be held daily at the finish venue near the base of the Chair 4, following the events. Overall Awards will be held on the final day of the series, following that day’s individual awards.
There will be a Welcome Breakfast banquet on Wednesday, March 21 for athletes, coaches and guests. Welcome Breakfast will be held in the Hotel Alyeska Ballroom at approximately 8am, prior to the training day. Breakfast will be included for coaches and athletes (as part of their event registration). We will be selling a limited number of guest tickets online. Check back in late January to purchase a Welcome Breakfast ticket if you are a guest/spectator.
FOR DIVISIONAL TEAMS:
Alyeska Resort is offering a special group rate (minimum of 10 lift tickets ordered, and ONE form of payment). Divisions should submit their Group Ticket Order form directly to Lauren Dreitzler, ldreitzler@alyeskaresort, (907) 754-2214. All athletes/coaches will need to submit a Release at hotel registration / lift ticket pickup.
Hotel Alyeska guests may pre-purchase lift tickets at a discounted hotel guest rate of $45.00 per adult and add it onto their hotel room reservation. Lift tickets must be added to the room reservation at least 2 days (48 hours) prior to the first day of arrival in order to qualify for this special rate. Additional lift tickets can be purchased at the Ticket Office window for regular retail value.
We’ve also been told that Costco in Anchorage (near airport) sells Alyeska Ski Resort lift tickets, and would be a savings.
Are you planning to travel to Alaska to watch the event? Awesome! We are so glad you can join us and experience all that Alaska has to offer. Here are a some important details.
TRANSPORTATION: Alyeska Resort is in the small town of Girdwood, Alaska, and approximately a 50 minute drive from the Anchorage Int’l Airport. There are no shuttles or public transportation from the airport to the town of Girdwood. Your best option to is rent a vehicle. Renting a vehicle will also provide you with options for sight-seeing and doing some grocery shopping in Anchorage before heading to Girdwood (where shopping supplies are limited).
LODGING: Athletes will be staying at the Hotel Alyeska with their team. There is another large event at the hotel, during the same dates as the U16 WR Championships, so the hotel might be full. But there are many other options to find lodging in Girdwood, Alaska. If the hotel is full, try the following links:
Bob Eastaugh will photograph the FIS and USSA races at Alyeska, weather permitting. He tries to post at least one photo (and often more) per racer per race and also sends images to local newspapers and SkiRacing with captions.
He posts his photos in “galleries” for each race. A 2017-18 race season “group” contains the season’s galleries. The link to that group is: http://www.zenfolio.com/bobeastaughimagery/f103027389
“Subgroups” for series (Coca-Cola, WR U16s, etc.) hold race-day galleries for races in the series.
Posted images can be viewed and enjoyed for free. They can also be purchased as prints or digital files. He only posts small files for review, but sometimes posts samples to show typical image quality for larger purchased images.
He donates all proceeds to Alyeska Ski Club’s juniors; please do not right-click or screen-shot posted images; that unfairly deprives the juniors of proceeds (and violates copyright laws and devalues the time he spends shooting and editing). To discourage screenshots, posted files have a large watermark that is omitted from purchased files. Very small (phone-size) images are available at low price.
A race produces so many (1,000 to 2,000) photos that it may take several days to finish uploading. His first priority of sending images on race day to newspapers may delay posting and order fulfillment. There may be additional delay if he is traveling after a race. Please be patient; the images are high quality.
His ski racing galleries contain FAQs about race photos and ordering process.
